Computer Network Support for a Small Business

By: David T.

If you run a small business, then you know just how difficult it can be to get everything done that you need to. While those in every end of business know a little something about working with limited resources, the challenges that face small businesses, especially in today's current economic slump can seem a little overwhelming. Fortunately, your computer networking services don't need to be that way. Computer network support, sometimes called business IT support, comes in a few different shapes and sizes. Right now, rather than talk about having an in-house staff, we're going to talk about outsourcing your IT needs to another company. After all- do you really have room on your payroll for more employees?

When you consult with a company about their IT services, you want to make sure that you are dealing with a knowledgeable group of people who will tailor your plan to suit the specific needs of your business. Nobody likes to pay for services they don't need, but even worse is the idea that you might end up missing a service that you do need! Of course, as with most aspects of running a small business, price matters. Looking for affordable IT services is the first step, and rest assured that by taking it out of the hands of your employees and placing it into the hands of professionals is certainly going to save you money.

What all should your business IT support services consist of? Well, it depends on your company, but there are a few things you want to have, no matter what. You want to have proactive care for your network and all of your systems, which includes monitoring as well as security. The company should provide you with documentation of your network's status or progress, along with any other data that is relevant. As anyone who has worked with computers will tell you, it is very important to have a back-up of all your files, and by outsourcing your IT support, you can have this done off-site, which is even safer!

In terms of your interaction, you want to have instant remote support available (during business hours at the very minimum). It's usually a good idea to work with a company who can dispatch someone to work with you on-site in a reasonable amount of time; twenty-four hours is a reasonable response time for most situations. You also want to be able to have telephone technical support as well. Finally, you want a company who will rate efficiency, suggest improvements and work with you towards that end.
